Coburg Water System Update

Status:  Well #2 remains out of service, with replacement equipment scheduled to arrive, be site tested and put into service Friday, June 26. Well #1 is performing as designed and continues to adequately supply water to the City’s storage tanks which is then distributed out to customers.

The ability for well #1 to satisfy the daily summer consumption needs of the system is due to the response from the community to temporarily reduce water consumption throughout this week. City staff is extremely appreciative of the community response and would like to acknowledge the immediate voluntary actions of many of our large volume customers as well as our residential customers who use less water normally but nonetheless made reductions that contribute greatly to the ability to safely and effectively operate the system with only one water supply

Reminder: The City is nearing completion of a new well #3 which will provide additional supply and also system redundancy when unforeseen equipment failures occur.

Request:  continue with whatever voluntary reductions you are able to make over the next 48 hours. Weather forecasts indicate rain starting late Thursday through the weekend.

Water quality is not affected and is being treated as designed and is safe to drink.

Coburg Water System Update

Situation - The equipment failure at one of the two municipal well's over the weekend is actively being worked on, with an expected full restoration of service expected Thursday (6/25).  With well #2 offline, Well #1 continues to operate as normal and is maintaining minimum water supply and distribution.

Request - To ensure the ability to serve all customers, the City is continuing its request for voluntary water curtailment through Thursday evening.  Large water customers have been directly contacted and are reducing or eliminating outdoor landscape water use and the City is doing the same throughout the Parks system.  The weather forecast indicates cooler weather by Thursday along with rain through the weekend, easing the impacts of mid-week irrigation reductions to landscaping.

Future Safeguards - While not able to assist in this current situation, the investment in a new well (well #3 located on Stallings Lane) currently under construction will provide additional water supply and system redundancy upon its completion and connection to the City system before the peak water consumption season next year.

Please help spread the word on this request to friends and neighbors who may not see social media posts.  Community challenges are met with community involvement and support and your support is appreciated as we get the system back to full operating status.

The City of Coburg water system experienced a power related equipment failure with its well pumps. Crews are actively working on the repair that may require multiple days for replacement equipment. The City requests that all customers voluntarily conserve water for the next 48-72 hours while the system operates on the remaining well.  Thank you for your assistance in ensuring all residents and businesses maintain operating levels of water and fire protection.
